Dear Member,
On Monday the 7th August a National Committee meeting was held to discuss executive applications and vote on a new Executive committee. As you all know there has been a three month period where executive roles have been advertised and applications invited.
This was brought about by the resignation of our last Chairman. Our long-serving secretary and treasurer, Malcolm and Anne Bland, wishing to step down at the next AGM in November, also the Merchandise officer stepping down after years of service to pursue a degree.
At the closing date for applications (31st July 2023), the club secretary had received four applications, one from myself, Mick Shakespeare, for the Chairman’s role, one from Bob Aldam for the Vice Chairman, one from Will Lawry for the Vice Chairman and one from Fran Burr for Club Secretary.
No applications were received for Club treasurer or the Merchandise Officer, Events or Heritage Officers.
To enable Anne to stand down at the AGM I offered to take on the role of Treasurer for the time being.
So after the executive committee discussion, the proposal to the National Committee was that myself, Mick Shakespeare, take on the Chairman’s role. Two Vice Chairmen to be appointed, Bob Aldam as Senior VC and first point of contact for the northern centres 1 through to 9 and Will Lawry as first point of contact for the southern centres 10 through to 20. Fran Burr to be appointed as Club Secretary, and myself, Mick Shakespeare, to take on the Treasurer’s role for the time being.
There were nineteen National committee members at the meeting and the proposal was passed / approved unanimously with no abstentions. This will allow the VSOC to move forward with a very similar organisation and structure as in the past.
I would also like to personally thank Nick Lappage and Debbie Jones for staying on as Website and Clatter editors.
