Had to look up what a Boardtracker is. Interesting project. I assume you are in the planning stages and further assume the lack of response is because you have not specified which 125 engine you want specs for (Virago or Star?). Most of the pics of 1900 Boardtrackers I saw were single cylinder engines… are you sure you want a Vtwin for this project?. Furthermore the weight of the engine…Read More
I normally find boat chandlers a good source of quality stainless steel bolts. However at one point they could not provide what I was after and after hunting around locally found a company called Allfix that always seems to have what I am looking for.
First thing that comes to mind is Valve clearance. Next possibly valve timing (if you have rebuilt the engine without being a mechanic). Although there could be numerous other reasons for a backfire (e.g. blocked jets, carb synch, or exhaust leak.) Probably bet to try and get a mechanic to look at it as it will be next to impossible trying to give advice without actually being with the…Read More
I think you might be onto something. If it does not cough and/or splutter, when it gets to 55 then it is probably restricted. 535’s are often restricted I think for the A2 License category.
Never seen it, and it can be done in different ways, but one I have heard of is two washers fitted inside the exhaust where it connects to the the cylinder to restrict it. If that is all it is,…Read More
What happens when it gets to 60-65?
I bought similar items for 535 about 2 years ago. That was after buying something online from aftermarket supplier that I thought was right but turned out to be wrong.
You can get the aftermarket for cheaper and they do the job. Cannot recall who I used in the end but it does save time just buying the full part.
The cheapest option is to just buy the rubber seals but they can be…Read More
First thing that comes to mind (as well as checking connections, especially in the headlamp) is to check fuses and relays as you might have inadvertently shorted and blown one of these in the process,
I also doubt the tank has anything to do with it unless you have instruments on the tank which i doubt you do.
If all else fails, pick one light, and follow the wire to (referring to…Read More

Start by replacing the spark plugs. (I had a similar problem on a 535 and every time this started to happen, replacing the spark plugs resolved the problem. Unfortunately that only temporarily resolved the problem as after around 250miles of daily commuting the problem returned. The second thing I would do is to put the battery on charge to ensure it is fully charged (normally meant to be…Read More
Hi Bill. I recently purchased an X reg XVS1100 custom. In very good condition. Looked great on Ebay and purchased it without test drive as I was keen to get it and the price was very reasonable. One thing I only found out after the purchase is that the exhaust needs to be removed to fo an oil change as the oil filter cannot be removed with the exhaust in place. There is even a mod that…Read More

How do you know it is the back cylinder?
Apart from saying it it pops and bangs on the back cylinder, and that it is fine on tickover, you are not saying much. Does it pop and bang on acceleration or deceleration? (Does it happen when just revving the bike or only when riding?)
I used to have a few pops and bangs and then changed to hiher octane fuel and it stopped.
What are the plugs…Read More
Realise it has been a while since you posted, but thought it might be worth responding and trying out this forum.
I have personally been looking at the 650 with some interest. I was however warned that it is somewhat underpowered. (But then the guy suggesting that had a 1600).
I was hoping to upgrade from a 535 and like the looks of the 650. But seems the 650 has slightly less power than…Read More
