ParticipantHello, newbie here, just bought first XV535,up to 60-65 bike runs fine.Checked compression, plugs, timing etc.All seems perfect to be honest. So suspect carbs, just not sure what fault I am looking for-diaphragms,jets.Any advise gratefully received. Thanks Paul

ParticipantHi Joker,
Basically up to 55 or so,it runs perfect,up thru the gears without issue.Once over 55 it becomes a struggle, almost as though a restrictor was in place.Keep the throttle wide open, have a lnong enough motorway, and eventualy 65,but its seriously hard work.If I had a rev counter and ay redline was 8K,I would say bike does 5K in each gear.Fitting original exhaust next week to see if that makes any difference,if not then Carbs strip tiem I guess. Cheers PK -

ParticipantI think you might be onto something. If it does not cough and/or splutter, when it gets to 55 then it is probably restricted. 535’s are often restricted I think for the A2 License category.
Never seen it, and it can be done in different ways, but one I have heard of is two washers fitted inside the exhaust where it connects to the the cylinder to restrict it. If that is all it is, removing the washers should do the job or fitting the new exhaust.
Worth a try anyway, but if that does not do it you might need to look at the carbs. One common problem with 535 carbs are the diaphragms that start leaking air. They are easy to remove and check for holes(without remocing the carbs) and can be somewhat expensive to replace.
Let us know how you get on.
