Hi peeps have searched the forum and can’t seem to find anything on this. I am in the process of building an Xvs 650 classic 1998. I have just seen that the fuel is changing in September and don’t know if the bike will be compatible with it. I have found that all Yamaha bikes built after 2000 are ok. I am under the impression that the engine never changed for a good few years so I’m hoping the 1998 is the same as the 2000. Am I right and thinking this or does anyone else have any information on the subject.

      Hi Paul,

I always use the better quality fuel (like Shell V-Power) as the quality of this fuel is not being affected.
You should still be able to get higher-octane ‘super’ E5 petrol at most places. It’s better for the engine as well.

      Kind regards,
