Sorry in advance everyone if this topic has been touched before. I’m still a newbie when it comes to bikes, still on my 125 drag star and unfortunately during this season I have noticed some decent amounts of rust seeping through chromed parts. What is everyone’s approach to it, how we fight it? I am not fortunate enough at the moment to have garage for my bike so cover is all I got, so I’m after every bit of information that will help me to preserve bike.

Thanks in advance and ride safe

      There are lots of ways.
Appreciate that even a 125 dragstar is probably over 20 years old and over 15 years makes it a Vintage.
      1. Get rid of rust that is showing
      – I use Redex and applied with fine steel wool. Let it soak a bit in the redex.
      – for toucher spots use a razor blade or similar to scrape it off.
      – Vinigar can also be used but needs to ideally soak in it for much longer.
      2. Next use a cutting compound
      – rubbing compound, t-cut, Brasso, Autosol (or all of them)
      – polish out any other dirt snd scratches that remain as best you can
      – this also helps remove the vinigar which as a mild acid.
      3. Wax it
      – Important to wax to cover any small holes with wax
      – If this is not done the rust will be back a couple of weeks later.
      – Some people also use ACF-50 (Google it)
      4. Park it in a dry place
      – If you dont have a garage put it inside your house 🙂
      – If you have to leave it outside, just one cover should be enough.
      – Be aware that a cover, in the wind, can damage and scratch.
      – Ride it more often and then clean it more often.
      – rinse it with cold fresh water after riding on salty or gritted roads.
      – If you sorn it over winter, might be worth renting dry storage for bikes. (My mechanic offers this)

      Hope this helps
