Centre 15's
May
Bank Holiday run to Hastings
Monday 6th May 2002 (Report by Sid Meyer)
Apart from most of Centre 15 members who turned up at the Little Chef on the A21, although we waited until 11.15am, we unfortunately missed all the other five Centres that we'd planned to meet there! Nevertheless, we set off for Hastings amongst the convoy of bikes, took a short-cut over the top of Hastings, arrived in the Old Town and parked up at the Royal Albion. There were the usual wheelies along the seafront performed by the 'Pocket Rocket' brigade, thousands of bikes of all different makes and ages, and a procession of characters ranging from Hells Angels to Big Daddy bikers on their trikes! Early reckonings put the number of bikes at around 14,000 which was rather down on the year before probably due to the cloudy weather. After a couple of cool shandies at The Royal Albion and the Jenny Lind, including the statutory 'walk-about' a few members came back to Sid's house in Hastings for tea. All in all it was a good day to the country's biggest and most disorganised 'bike rally'.
