1st Welsh VSOC Rally
13 - 15 June 2001
Tonna Rugby Club, Nr Neath
This was the third VSOC Rally of the year and the very first time the Welsh had hosted one. The weather had been so good for the Preston Rally we did not think we could be that lucky again - but we were. The ride for me was a quick 1 & 1/2 hour dash along the M4, missing the rain in the process and arriving at 12.30 at Tonna Rugby Club, near the town of Neath and only 10 miles away from Swansea. This Rugby club are no strangers to biker rallies, just the previous week they had been host to the Goldwing Owners Club. " Well behaved lot" we were told by the owner. I wondered how we would compare?!
There was a relaxed and laid back feel to the place, the field used for camping had access lanes marked out and by Friday night saw over 300 bikes and tents all neatly laid in rows. Portaloos supplemented the toilets and the showers were hot and alternated male and female every hour on the hour. The hot water urns were constantly manned so tea, coffee and chocolate was available all the time. By far the best thing was the bar prices!
On Saturday morning whilst quite a few went on the Poker Run which involved visiting various check points where people collected cards with the best poker hand winning, others popped over to Swansea and visited M&P and Finks Diner situated next to it.
Saturday night saw the customary raffle, bike trophies and a presentation to yours truly, whose last UK rally it was to be for some time. This was followed by a "Get your own back at Tomo" ceremony where I was swiftly cling-filmed to a post, stripped and sprayed from head to toe with shaving foam. Lovely!
I would personally like to thank everyone who contributed towards the lovely gifts received. Special thanks to my colleagues from Centre 17 - The Scrumpies and in particular "Magic" who masterminded my send off.
As the evening went on a band called Peep Show and the DJ provided the music while the crowd provided the entertainment.

TOGA at TONNA
West Midlands demonstrated their solidarity by coming dressed as Romans.
Finally, Considering this centre only has 8 active members the effort put in was tremendous. Everyone had nothing but praise.
WELL DONE to Paul and Sue - You did it!
